The National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Tarkwa Nsuaem Assembly are at odds over who should manage the TnA stadium.

The stadium was recently completed with funding from the Gold Fields Foundation and has a seating capacity of over 12,000

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, which invested over $16 million USD in the stadium’s construction, handed the facility over to the NSA for upkeep in August.

Merely weeks after the National Sports Authority (NSA) took the reins,The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly has voiced concerns over the subpar maintenance of the stadium.

According to the Assembly’s Chief Executive, Benjamin Kesse, a committee was formed to oversee the stadium’s management due to numerous operational issues, as many of its facilities are currently not functioning as intended.

“Per the memorandum of understanding signed by the Municipal Assembly, NSA, and GoldFields, we decided to stay back and watch NSA, and what they have done to the stadium confirms that they have nothing to offer us,” Kessie remarked.

“The washrooms and pipes laid to keep the pitch in shape are not functioning, and even the state of the turf is bad,” he added.

In response, NSA Deputy Director General, Bawa Majeed has dismissed this claim and affirmed that the NSA remains in charge.

“They have not taken over and they cannot take over like that,” Bawa told Asempa FM.

“We can’t take possession of public property like that. The fact that the facility is in the Municipality does not mean it is for the Municipality alone.

“They spoke to us and we even gave them assurance letter that it is even in our laws to work closely with the Assembly.”

The poor handling of stadiums in Ghana has led to an embarrassing CAF ban, forcing Ghana to play their upcoming home matches abroad.
