The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dodzie Numekevor, has been relieved of his duties by President Akufo-Addo with immediate effect, Univers Sports can report.

This decision follows the withdrawal of Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana’s only stadium eligible to host Category 3 matches, by CAF due to the deplorable condition of the pitch during Ghana’s match against Angola on September 5.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, through his Chief Director, William Kartay Caesar, issued a query to Mr. Numekevor, requesting him to justify why he should not face penalties for leading an organization that has brought embarrassment to the Office of the President and the nation as a whole.

Although Mr. Numekevor was given until Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to respond, President Akufo-Addo, reportedly dissatisfied with the state of sports infrastructure under the NSA’s management, dismissed him from his position on Tuesday afternoon.

The President is said to have informed the Sports Minister that he will be held accountable if Ghana is forced to play any of its home matches outside the country.

Univers Sports also reports that President Akufo-Addo has dismissed the individuals responsible for renting out the Baba Yara Stadium for a six-day church programme prior to the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.
