A concerned University of Ghana student, Asioh Joseph Mawuli, has filed a lawsuit against the university, the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Rosina Kyeremanteng, as the second defendant, the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, as the third defendant, and the SRC Electoral Commission, chaired by Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim, as the fourth defendant. The legal challenge contests the reinstatement of disqualified candidates Maradona Adjei Yeboah (Guru) and Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah (Manuel Life) in the 2024 SRC elections.

Mawuli asserts that the SRC vetting committee acted within the law when it disqualified the candidates for failing to meet the requirements of Article 30(1)(a). He further argues that the Appeals Board had no jurisdiction to overturn the Judicial Board’s ruling from September 15, 2024, as neither of the disqualified candidates formally invoked the board’s intervention.

The plaintiff claims that the Dean of Students’ directive to include Guru and Manuel Life in the election is “null and void” and describes the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s directive to halt SRC proceedings as an act of interference. He is seeking a court order to prevent the Electoral Commission from listing the two candidates in the 2024 SRC elections, which are scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

The SRC Electoral Commission has confirmed receipt of the summons and awaits instructions from the university on whether to proceed with the elections as planned.

Below is this the writ of summons:
