The Ghana Police Service has arrested Yaw Korateng at Nsawam in the Eastern Region for having a device suspected to be the property of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting in the investigation.
This was contained in a press release on August, 23.
Meanwhile, the Police said it has informed the EC of the arrest and invited them to establish whether or not the device belonged to them.
The police also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation.
“As the investigation into this incident continues, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders for their continuous support to ensure security, law and order during this election period and beyond,” the police said.
In a recorded video shared on social media, the suspect, who is from Brekusu, claimed that the BVD was given to him by a friend from Tudu who also deals in phones.
The Nsawam Police Command has not issued an official statement on the matter, leaving it unclear whether the BVD belongs to the Electoral Commission (EC) or another agency that uses such devices, though there are inscriptions of the EC on the device.
Tension has risen in the area, particularly among NDC members, given the unresolved issue of the EC’s missing laptops. The Electoral Commission is yet to respond to the incident
