Economist, Dr. Adu Owusu Sarkodie has opined that Ghana can achieve the status of a first class economy in span of 10 years citing Singapore and Rwanda as examples.
Speaking on the Behind the Headlines show on Radio Univers, Dr. Adu Owusu Sarkodie explained that this can be accomplished through policy consistency and ensuring that regardless of whatever political party comes into power, the incumbent government will ensure the continuity of developmental policies and programmes.
“If we want to change the structure of our economy and be an industrious economy and transform our economy to be a first-class economy, we do not need 20 years to do it. Check all the countries that are first-class countries, Singapore, Malaysia, even our own Botswana. Look at Rwanda, where Kagame has been winning elections. Recently, he won by 99%. What does it tell you? It tells you about the policy consistency.”
“So this NDP, NDC, 4 years, 4 years is a joke. We need a policy consistency to be able to transform our economy and we don’t need less than 20 years to make Ghana a first- class economy.
We must advocate for policy consistency and that is why we have NDPCs. Whatever NDPC puts on paper, whether you are NPP or NDC, you must follow suit.”
