President of the United States of America, Joe Biden’s 50-year political career is coming to an abrupt and humble end as he announces his intention to withdraw from the presidential reelection campaign, four months before Americans go to the polls, upending the race for the White House.

This comes after weeks of heavy criticism from other Democrats following a shaky debate performance against Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

In a statement released earlier today, the President noted that the decision he believes is in the best interest of his party and the country. He reflected on the significant progress made over the past three and a half years, highlighting historic achievements in the economy, healthcare, veterans’ care, gun safety, and climate legislation.

President Biden expressed gratitude to his supporters, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the American people for their trust and faith.

“I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We’ve protected and preserved our Democracy. And we’ve revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.”

While the decision comes as a surprise to many, the President reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his duties for the remaining period of his term.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

In a follow-up post on X, President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

” … My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”

Joe Biden is set to address the nation later this week.
