The all time-record goal scorer for the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has given his candid opinion on the omission of the most capped player and Ghana’s skipper, Andre Ayew, from the recent call-ups by head coach Otto Addo ahead of Ghana’s World Cup qualifying games against Mali and CAR.
Otto Addo announced his 26-man squad at the head quarters of the Ghana football Association on May 28, 2024, without the inclusion of André Ayew.
Speaking on Joy Sports Game plan, Gyan waded in on the ongoing conversation
André has done so much for Ghana. The coach has made his decision. This is a situation we have to move on from. If it was me, I won’t be happy, but we have to support the coach’s decision, he said.
Dede played with Gyan across 9 major internationals during the striker’s Black Stars days and finished as runners-up in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments (2010 & 2015).
Although Dede has struggled for game time in the last 18 months, André has been in scintillating form for his club (Le Havre), of which Asamoah Gyan believes it will make it a more bitter pill to swallow for him
I think he should take it in good faith. He might be angry due to his recent form but André knows how to handle situations like this. He will be fine, he added.
The window for André to feature in this new look team is not completely shut, with Otto Addo leaving the door wide open :” But never say never”
