The possibility of Jeremy Agyekum Frimpong playing for the Black Stars of Ghana is finally over as the Dutch-Ghanaian descendant is named in Holland’s provisional squad for the 2024 European Championships (EUROS) by Dutch gaffer Ronald Koeman.

The Bayer Leverkusen right-back will be representing the Dutch national team at a second major tournament, ruling him completely out of playing for Ghana, the country of his parents.

The 23-year-old was part of the Dutch team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but he failed to make an appearance for the team in Qatar as he was sidelined by Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

He later made his debut against France on match day 5 of the European Cup qualifiers, before adding another cap to his name in a friendly match against Scottland.

The Dutch fullback is expected to be a key member of Ronald Koeman’s team at the Euros, following his blistering and sensational performances for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

Frimpong was a key part of Xabi Alonso’s side who won the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history, scoring 9 goals and providing 9 assists in the Bundesliga. His presence in the defensive line is a contributory factor to their impressive record of 50 unbeaten games in all competitions.

His performances have seen him attract interest from several European elite clubs, including Manchester City; his boyhood club, Manchester United, and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Other players of Ghanaian descent named in the Dutch squad include Memphis Depay, Cody Gakpo, and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Below is the full provisional squad list:

Having won the Bundesliga title with Leverkusen and with two trophies on the line to be played for (Europa League final against Atlanta and DFB Pokal against Kaiserslautern) to complete a potential treble, can Jeremie Frimpong steer the Dutch national team to second UEFA EURO Cup glory after the nation beat Soviet Union 2-0 to secure their maiden EURO Cup in 1988 at Munich’s Olympiastadion in Germany ?
