Ghana’s Black Starlets climaxed their UEFA U-16 tournament with a flourish, as they thumped Kazakhstan 5-1 in Zenit on Sunday.
After suffering a setback in their first game of the tournament against host Russia on Wednesday, April 25, 2024, Laryea Kingston’s young squad put up a spirited performance to end the competition in style.
Ghana put 5 goals past a helpless Serbian side in the early hours of Friday morning, before proceeding to annihilate Kazakhstan by the same scoreline and margin on Sunday.
Ghana’s win over Kazakhstan saw the West African nation pick up their second win in a tournament, where they managed to score 11 goals and concede 5 in 3 games.
Ghana, on the day, showed great resilience and determination to fight back from an early Kazakhstan goal, leveling the game through the enterprising Benjamin Tsevanyo before Joseph Narbi took the game by the scruff of the neck to score a brace.
The scoring, however, was wrapped up with Abdulai Nortey and Benjamin Hanson coming to the fore with two crucial goals to seal an emphatic win for Ghana.
The team is set to arrive back in Ghana after a successful tournament, with the UEFA-organized event being used as a springboard by Laryea Kingston and his charges for the impending West African Football Union (WAFU) zone b tournament, which kicks off on May 15, 2024.
