Ghanaian star Kudus shines as West Ham thrashes Serbia’s Backa Topola by 3-1

Ghanaian football star, Mohammed Kudus has scored his first goal for West Ham United whiles making his first European debut and first start for the side on Thursday, 21 September 2023, against Serbian side Backa Topola in their Europa league Group opener.

During the game, the situation was initially proving difficult for the UEFA Europa Conference League winners when midfielder of Backa Topola, Petar Stanic took advantage of an error by West Ham defence to make the scoreboard figure a 1-0 after a solo run.

At the 66th minute, Backa defender, Nemanja Petrovic failed to protect their advantage when he scored an own goal after Kudus forced Nemanja Petrovic to direct a cross into his own net.

The Ghanaian international and West Ham midfielder, Mohammed Kudus scored with a header from former Southampton captain, James Ward Prowse corner kick four minutes after the own goal.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate’s first goal since joining the English Premier League outfit this summer put West Ham ahead 2-1 on the score board.

West Ham substitute, Tomas Soucek finally sealed the win for the hosts by scoring the last goal of the night.

However, Mohammed Kudus did not only score in the game but the former Ajax star completed the most dribbles in the game (3); he was also the most fouled player (3 fouls) with the most duel wins (10 wins) in the match.

After Gameweek 1, West Ham United are now the leaders of the UEFA Europa League Group A table whiles Freiburg, Olympiacos and TSC Backa Topola follow in that order.
