Students in various colleges across the country have been calling for the government to take heed to CETAG’s calls for negotiations following the association’s ongoing strike.
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) had been on strike since 1st August following the goverment’s failure to comply with negotiations to improve working conditions for the association. The negotiations for the implementation of improved conditions of service were directed by the National Labour Commission earlier in May this year.
With just few weeks to the end of semester examinations, academic work has halted in the colleges of education due to the ongoing strke.
According to some students in the various Colleges of Education, the students have been left with no option than to engage in private and group studies in order to prepare for their examinations.
Some of these students have shared their frustration on the strike, and they are further calling for government to satisfy CETAG’s demands in order to stop the strike.
”The government has to pay them because when the teachers go on strikes, it affect us and our studies too. So we are calling on the government to pay the teachers so they can come and teach. We are hoping to hear a positive outcome in a scheduled meeting between the (CETAG) and the stakeholders by the close of the week.”
Meanwhile, CETAG has been scheduled to hold a meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) and other various stakeholders on 16th August, 2023.
The meeting would address the issues for which CETAG has embarked on a strike.
