Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced that the stakeholder committee set up to address DSTV subscription pricing concerns has introduced enhanced packages with reduced costs exclusively for subscribers in Ghana.

The development follows weeks of back-and-forth between MultiChoice Ghana and the Ministry over the relatively higher subscription prices in Ghana compared to other countries in the sub-region.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry’s conference room, Sam George explained that the new packages offer between 33–50% added value in bouquet options for both existing and new customers under the committee’s proposals.

“Subscribers on the Padi bouquet, priced at GHS 59, will now be upgraded to the next level of GHS 99. Subscribers of the GHS 99 pack will be moved to the GHS 190 Family bouquet. Existing Family bouquet subscribers will be upgraded to the Compact bouquet at GHS 380. Compact bouquet subscribers will be moved to the Compact Plus bouquet at GHS 570. Existing Premium bouquet subscribers, who currently pay GHS 865, will retain the full services of that package and also get the chance to enter a raffle to win tickets for selected live football matches in England, subject to terms and conditions,” he revealed.

Sam George further noted that the government, in partnership with responsible businesses like MultiChoice Ghana operating in the digital technology and innovations sector, remains committed to ensuring that Ghanaian customers receive the best value for their subscriptions.

“MultiChoice Ghana is a responsible business entity operating within the confines of Ghana and is committed to partnering with the government to provide value for money to the thousands of subscribers across most Ghanaian households. This goodwill between the company and the Ministry demonstrates that the interest of Ghanaian consumers remains the top priority for both MultiChoice Ghana and the Communications Ministry, which represents the state in this venture,” he stated.

This development finally brings to rest the lingering disagreements between the Ministry and MultiChoice Ghana regarding DSTV subscription prices in the country.
