The Ghana Education Service (GES) has in a letter dated, October 16 confirmed that First-year SHS students (2024 BECE graduates) will report on Oct 30 to start their academic year. This marks the start of the GES released 2024/2025 academic calendar for second cycle schools across the country.
The GES indicated that all first-year students for single track and transitional schools, as well as all continuing students in single track schools, will report on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
This means that prospective students who are waiting for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results and SHS placement are expected to begin school on October 30, 2024.
In an earlier publication, this portal disclosed that students who are currently in SHS1 and SHS2 and are in school will vacate on 28th October to end their 2023-2024 academic year and then reopen the next day to start their term 1 or semester 1 of the 2024-2025 academic year. All students in SHS1 and 2 will be promoted automatically. The will also not go home but start the new academic year and be in school until they vacate in December, 2024.
The GES explained that the change in re-opening dates is to ensure that the school calendar starts in September in 2024.
“The academic year begins on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024 for all Senior High Schools. Please note that the current first-year students in transitional calendar schools will end their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, October 28, 2024 and be promoted to Form Two (2) to continue with the new academic year immediately.
“Incoming first-year students for single track and transitional schools will also begin school on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024. Additionally, all continuing students in single track schools will reopen for the new academic year on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024,” part of the statement read.
It added, “This re-opening date aims to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year and paves the way for our final year students to write their 2025/2026 WASSCE in May/June.”
