Some students at the University of Ghana have expressed disappointment over the timing of the 2025 edition of the annual Wear UG Day, arguing that holding the celebration during the vacation period will prevent many from participating.
The event, which is a cherished university tradition, encourages members of the UG community to wear the official university cloth to celebrate unity, harmony, and a shared sense of belonging.
Some students, however, believe the timing is inconvenient since many are currently away from campus.
“It’s quite disappointing because a lot of students are abroad for vacation and won’t be able to join the celebration. I really don’t understand why Wear UG Day will be held while we’re at home. Most of us have colleagues in the USA and other countries far from school, so we can’t make it,” one student said.
Another student shared a similar concern, explaining that he had already prepared his UG cloth but may not be able to participate due to work commitments during the break.
“I think it’s not the best time because when academic work is in session, we actually have the chance to take part. Personally, I’ve sewn my cloth and wanted to wear it on that day, but now that I’m home, some of us have travelled for work — so how do we wear it?” he said.
This year’s edition is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at the Cedi Conference Centre, under the theme “Living the Legacy through Professionalism and Self-Expression.”
