With over 30 years of experience in banking and finance, Josephine Anan-Ankomah has established herself as a key figure in Africa’s financial sector. She specializes in treasury management, strategy execution, investment, and commercial banking, and her leadership has significantly impacted the industry.

Currently, she serves as the Regional Executive for Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa (CESA) at Ecobank Transnational while also holding the position of Managing Director at Ecobank Kenya. She oversees operations in 18 of the 35 African countries where Ecobank operates, managing a substantial portion of the Group’s balance sheet and revenue.

Previously, Josephine was the Group Executive for Commercial Banking, where she led Ecobank’s SME and local corporate banking strategy across 33 African markets. She is a passionate advocate for women in business and played a key role in launching Ellevate by Ecobank, an award-winning program that provides tailored financial solutions for women-led businesses.

Her career at Ecobank has included several leadership roles, such as Chief Operating Officer for the West African Monetary Zone/East & Southern Africa, Regional Treasurer managing a $3 billion balance sheet, and Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia, where she strengthened the bank’s market position.

Josephine holds a BA and an MBA from the University of Ghana and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. She is also dedicated to empowering young women through SheBlossoms, a foundation she founded to provide financial aid, educational resources, and mentorship to girls.

Outside of banking, Josephine is a music enthusiast who has played a vital role in developing Ghana’s gospel music scene by mentoring upcoming talents. At home, she is surrounded by legal minds—married to a lawyer and raising three more—often joking that she has mastered the art of financial negotiations at the dinner table.

The 2025 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lecture Series will take place on March 13 and 14 at 4:30 PM at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, with a live broadcast on Radio Univers 105.7 FM at 4:00 PM each day.
