Dr. Austin Wontepaga Luguterah, the Director of Sports and Wellness at the University of Ghana, has announced that the official training camp for University of Ghana athletes will begin on December 20th in preparation for the 2024 GUSA Games.
Speaking on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the 60th edition of the University of Ghana Inter Halls Athletics Meet, Dr. Austin revealed that athletes are gearing up for the 2024 GUSA Games, with the Inter-Halls competition serving as a crucial selection process.
“The records that were broken gives us indications that our guys are getting prepared. Remember that the Inter Halls is a way selecting people to get them prepared for the GUSA Games. We will be starting camping on the 20th of December,2024. We just have some few days to camp and to move into the competition on the 3rd of January, 2025. We are supposed to be in Cape Coast to start the GUSA- he said.
The performance of the athletes is already giving us the indication that we are going to do well so that tells us that we have less to do when we go for camping. We only have to improve on what we have- he added.
There’s excitement the students themselves are anticipating quick camping they actually wanted it on 16th but it is just that at that time most students will be having academic works doing- Dr. Luguterah concluded.
The 2024 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games will be hosted by the University of Cape Coast.
Expected to run from January 3 to 18, 2025, the GUSA Games would feature student athletes from 16 public universities, showcasing a variety of sporting events, including athletics, basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, handball, tennis, and goalball.
The theme for the 28th edition of the games, “Repositioning University Sports for National Development” underscores the fact that sports play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of individuals and the entire nation.
