Ghana’s Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has etched her name into the history books, becoming the first Ghanaian ever to qualify for the women’s high jump final at the World Athletics Championships currently ongoing in Tokyo.

The 2023 All African Games gold medalist cleared 1.92 metres in the qualification round to finish 9th overall, sealing her place among the top 12 athletes who will contest the final.

Yeboah’s feat is historic not only for the high jump but also for Ghanaian athletics as a whole.

It marks the first time in 20 years that a Ghanaian athlete has reached an individual event final at the Worlds, since Ignatius Gaisah won silver in the men’s long jump and Margaret Simpson took bronze in the women’s heptathlon back in 2005.

The women’s high jump final is scheduled for Sunday, 21 September 2025, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, where Yeboah will face the world’s best, including reigning champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
