The 1973 UGBS Alumni year group of the University of Ghana Business School has donated surveillance systems to the school to celebrate 50 years after leaving the Business school. The surveillance systems that are to be used to enforce security at the K. E. Adjei Library on the main campus and the Tullow Ghana Limited Library at the Graduate Campus of the school were commissioned on Friday, 25 August 2023.
Giving his opening remarks at a short ceremony held at his office, the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Justice Bawole, expressed his appreciation to the group for embarking on such an important project for the school even in their retirement age. “I thank God for your lives, that after 50 years you are alive, and you are still together as a group. For retirees like you who are no longer working and are dependent on pension, to set aside money for this project is inspiring and we really appreciate it,” he stated.
Prof Justice N Bawole, the Dean of UGBS acknowledged the significance of the surveillance system, noting that it will be a solution to a long-standing issue. The Dean gave an account of how the increment in student numbers has resulted in a lot of pressure on the limited resources. The situation, according to the Dean, has also led to unscrupulous people using the opportunity to steal from the students in the libraries and from offices.
In a brief response on behalf of the group, Mr. Kwasi Okoh indicated their unwavering commitment to helping the school achieve global recognition as a world-class business institution. “Our tribute,” he asserted, “is a token of gratitude, acknowledging the quality education this school has bestowed on us. So today, we are proud to say that we have stretched our widow’s mite to cover two libraries, the first choice of the school and the one here in our alma mater. It is important to us that we have made a modicum of payback to the school,” he added.
Recollecting the past, Mr. Okoh mentioned that they were fortunate to have people like the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, the then Director of the school, Kwame Adjei, Prof. George Atiase, Patrick Aidan, Prof. Dartey-Baah, Yaw Adjei and Harry Agyeman among others as faculty. He further paid homage to their mates who had passed on leaving “Just Us 1973” to continue the good works here on earth.
The event ended with a tour of the library, networking, and taking a group photograph.
