“14 athletes to be sent to France for camping ahead of African games” – CAA Senior Championship Medalist reveals

Silver medalist in the 100m at the Confederation of African Athletics Senior Championship, Sarfo Ansah, provided details on Team Ghana’s preparations for the African games to be hosted in Accra.

The Ghanaian athlete described Ghana’s performance at the games as historic with some athletes recording impressive times in their respective events.

In an exclusive interview with Univers Sports, Mr Ansah Sarfo Ansah disclosed the team’s preparations ahead of the African games which is scheduled to start from March 8 – March 23, 2024.

“After the invitation to Nigeria, Team Ghana will start camping for the All Africa Games, the CEO of Ghana Athletics and the board are taking things into consideration that 14 athletes, 7 local and 7 foreign based will be sent to France for camping all because of the upcoming African games, you know Ghana has to win medals. So for athletics we are very much grateful to everybody and for this process that we have started I know it will end well and Ghana will win a lot of medals.” Sarfo Ansah revealed.

Mr Ansah further recounted Ghana’s performance at the just ended CAA Championship in Lome as a significant feat to the team’s preparation.

The Competition, saw team Ghana amassing 14 gold medals, 8 silver and 2 bronze at the 14-nation championship.

“We went to Lome to compete and God being so good we are back and we did very well. Its been a while seeing a 400m local based athlete running 45s is a history. right now we’ve been invited to Nigeria to run 4X100m women and 4X400m men and women all because of the good works we did in Lome” he told Univers Sports

The African Games will for the first time be hosted in Ghana. The nation has been an active participant in the quadrennial sports festival since it began in 1965.

A 50,000-seater Olympic Stadium is under construction in Borteyman, and facilities at the University of Ghana, including the stadium, rugby grounds, and the games village (diaspora halls), are still undergoing renovations.
