The University of Ghana (UG) Sports Stadium has been selected as the sole venue to stage the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Under 17 Boys Football Tournament, slated for May 15 to May 29, 2024.

Seven West African countries will be participating in this year’s tournament, including the Black Starlets of Ghana, who are in Group A alongside La Côte d’Ivoire and Benin, whereas group B features Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo.

After successfully participating in the UEFA U-16 tournament held in Russia as a means of nurturing and developing talents for the future, the Black Starlets have touched down in Ghana to begin preparations for the WAFU Zone B U17 tournament.

The competition serves as the avenue for teams to qualify for the 2024 TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Four training pitches have been designated for the teams to ready themselves for their matches. These comprise the Athletics Oval field, the Mensah Sarbah field, and the Union Ghana soccer field, all situated within the premises of the University of Ghana.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium is, however, poised to host a throttle of electrifying matches ahead of the WAFU B U-17 tournament after successfully hosting 2 matches during the African Games Men’s football tournament in March.
