The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council Electoral Commission (UGSRC EC) Chairman, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim, has addressed the audio recording that allegedly captures a conversation lobbying for a coalition agreement between Presidential candidate Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, known as “Manuel Life,” and a potential running mate.

In an exclusive interview on Radio Univers, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim confirmed that the voice in the widely circulated audio recording is indeed his own.

According to the EC Chair, the conversation with Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah was intended as brotherly advice to assist him in filing his nomination after an unsuccessful attempt to pair with another candidate.

“I admit that the voice in the supposed leak tape is mine. Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah called me seeking brotherly advice as he was struggling to file his nomination due to an unsuccessful attempt to pair with a candidate.”

“I suggested to him to pair with someone who was already in the race and to communicate with other candidates in the bid to get one of them to run in the ticket with him. Despite the strange relationship he had with them.”

Mudasir expressed concern that crucial context from the audio has been deliberately omitted.

“The first 35 to 40 seconds which provide crucial context have been deliberated and maliciously omitted in the leak. The leak version is to manipulate the narrative for political gain. The complete audio will reveal that my responses were refrained in the context of brotherly advice not in my capacity as an EC.”

He emphasized that his responses were given in the context of brotherly advice, not in his capacity as EC Chair.

Mudasir also noted that Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah leveraged their prior relationship when reaching out for advice.

“He reached out to me, saying that he knew I was the EC, even though before I was appointed as an EC, they had a relationship. I am his brother, so he claimed he was only seeking my brotherly advice, but he used that against me.”

The EC Chair believes that the websites sharing the story about the leaked audio are connected to Manuel’s campaign and will resort to any tactics necessary to secure his victory as UGSRC President.

“He is acting like an angry lion. Somebody who will stop at nothing and will do whatever it takes by all means possible to be at the Union building. He can do worse things than this looking at the repository”

He concluded by apologizing to his supporters for engaging in the conversation.

“It is my leniency he played on, and I regret answering his calls.”
