The University of Ghana’s School of Communication Studies is calling on the public to verify information before consuming or sharing it, especially as the 2024 general election approaches.
The campaign, titled “Media Information Literacy,” aims to raise awareness about the dangers of misinformation, disinformation, and inaccurate content, particularly online. It encourages the public to critically assess questionable content and ensure its credibility before engaging with it.
The initiative advises individuals to fact-check information before hitting the ‘share’ button, emphasizing the need to avoid spreading falsehoods.
“If a post sparks anger or seems too wild to believe, pause and investigate further. Is it an opinion, a joke, or a rumor? Trust only credible sources and play your part in stopping the spread of misinformation,” the campaign emphasizes.
