The Chairman of the University of Ghana SRC Electoral Commission, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim has offered an apology in a written form to the Dean of Student’s Affairs, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten following a letter the former wrote earlier, accusing the dean of interference in the matters of the Electoral Commission.

In the letter dated 6th August 2024, addressed to the Dean of Student’s Affairs, the EC Chairman based his apologies upon reflections and discussions over what he refers to as miscommunications and misunderstandings.

He apologized for any distress that the letter he published earlier may have inflicted upon the Dean of Student’s Affairs and even other members of the University community.

The EC Chair further demonstrated his willingness to ensure that any future disagreements encountered are addressed through “constructive dialogue and mutual understanding”.

Background
On the 2nd of August 2024, the UGSRC EC Chairman, Mudasir-Ibn Ibrahim publicized a letter addressed to the Dean of Student’s Affairs with the heading “CONCERNS FROM THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION: INTERFERENCE IN THE ELECTORAL PROCESS” to register the EC’s displeasure with alleged interference of the Dean in the duties of the commission in conducting the UGSRC electoral process.

In that letter, nine (9) points were raised by the EC, detailing the chronology of events leading to the perceived interference of the Dean in the electoral process.

The official apology came in after the EC, Mudasir broke down in tears while verbally apologizing to the Dean of Students during a meeting, sources revealed.

A day prior, former Deputy EC Chair, Bright Siaw had condemned the conduct of the EC towards the Dean of Students in an interview on Campus Exclusive; according to Bright Siaw, the EC Chair should apologise to the dean as a sign of respect.
