On October 14, 2024, a tragic rock blast on the Buduburam stretch of the Accra-Winneba Highway left four people feared dead. This shocking incident raises serious questions about safety measures during construction activities. How can such a disaster happen in broad daylight?

A tragic incident has occurred on the Buduburam stretch of the Accra-Winneba highway after a rock blasted by a construction company working on the road caused extensive damage.

Three persons have been confirmed dead and over 30 people have sustained injuries of varying degrees following the incident.

Citi News sources say the rock blast which lasted for a few minutes was done after several vehicles on the stretch were halted for the activity to take place.

This is not the first time rocks have been blasted on the Budumburam section of the highways according to residents of the area.

They say the blasting of the rock most of the time destroys the roofing sheets of houses around the Big Apple area when the construction work is happening.

Some angry residents of the area after the incident attacked workers of the company working on that stretch

Citi News understands that a Chinese man who is leading the team has been arrested. The injured have been rushed to the St Gregory Hospital in Buduburam.

The Hospital administrator at the St. Gregory Hospital, Buduram, Mattias Ayegre-Anaba noted that “This is the true records of what we have in this hospital. In all 42 people were brought here. As we are speaking, we are referring four, two have already gone to 37 Military Hospital and the two we are waiting for an ambulance to be taken to Winneba.”

“Currently these people on admission are in stable condition. We have 18 females; nine males and we have two others in our recovery. Three were okay and have been discharged. Unfortunately we lost three.”
