On today’s episode, we take a nostalgic trip back to Pent Hall Week last year, where Univers Entertainment had an exclusive interview with Ghanaian Afrobeats and Ghanapiano pioneers, Dope Nation.
During their conversation with Kvng Kelly at the heart of Pent Hall, the dynamic duo dropped a compelling piece of musical history that stirred both nostalgia and admiration. Dope Nation revealed that they had a hand in creating one of the late Ghanaian music legend Ebony Reigns’ most celebrated tracks—“Poison”. Even more surprising was the location: the hit was recorded in Room 1099 of Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall, a place now etched in the lore of Ghanaian music.
“Poison,” one of Ebony’s defining songs, catapulted her into both local and international fame, becoming a timeless anthem that continues to resonate with fans.
Switching gears to the present, Dope Nation also teased their fans with news of an upcoming project during the same interview. That project, now released, is their ‘Ghanapiano’ EP, a genre-fusing soundscape that pays homage to their Ghanaian roots while embracing the global appeal of Amapiano.
The EP features standout tracks like “Gboza” and “Check My Zingo”—the latter boasting a high-profile collaboration with rap heavyweight Sarkodie.
Dope Nation’s journey continues to reflect their innovative spirit and commitment to pushing the boundaries of African music.
