Ghanaian singer Kelvynboy has voiced his disappointment over what he perceives as an oversight by the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) for failing to nominate Kojoblak’s Excellent for Most Popular Song of the Year.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty on March 20, 2025, Kelvynboy highlighted what he sees as an inconsistency in the nominations. He pointed out that Sarkodie’s No Sir, which was released after Excellent, secured a nomination, yet Kojoblak’s song was left out. According to him, this omission undermines the success and impact Excellent has achieved.

“I thought it was going to get nominated because some other songs made the list even though they were released after Excellent,” he said. “And Excellent is one of the biggest songs. I don’t know if it was a mistake… but honestly, it vexes me.”

Reiterating his point, he added,

“Some songs that were released after Kojoblak’s Excellent have been nominated. I think one of them is Sarkodie’s No Sir. If there’s something that can be done to address this, then it should be considered.”

Expressing his frustration over TGMA’s failure to recognize Kojoblak’s efforts, he admitted,

“Yeah, it pains me small because it’s not easy to get one, so I was really rooting for him, you know…”

Beyond the snub, Kelvynboy also challenged the notion that emerging artists must first pass through the Unsung Artist category before gaining mainstream recognition.

He argued that a hit song should be enough to earn an artist a nomination, regardless of their status.

“The fact that he’s upcoming doesn’t mean he should go through the Unsung category before getting recognition. If the song is popular and deserves it, that’s it!” he asserted.

Kelvynboy’s remarks have sparked discussions about the fairness of award nominations and the recognition given to rising artists in the Ghanaian music industry.
