Professor Jonathan Quartey of the College of Health Sciences has expressed optimism about his team’s prospects in the inaugural University of Ghana Corporate Football League.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Professor Quartey, a renowned expert in Health Professions Education and Sports and Orthopaedics Physiotherapy, stated that his college has a singular focus: to emerge victorious in the tournament.

“We have a group of young men who are actually very active, vibrant, dedicated to what they do. Every team is unique but we believe in our strengths because we know the kind of players we have and I think that alone sets us apart. We are very confident and we think that we can pass through but we know we get a lot of stiff opposition from those teams that are coming from outside. But nonetheless, I mean, we are still confident that we’ll make a good showing. So, that pressure makes it good. There’s only one goal, I mean, to go for the ultimate. I can’t add anything other than to go for the ultimate. However, like I’ve just said a while ago, we know it’s not going to be on a silver platter but the goal is to go for the ultimate. Sport is made for everybody. It doesn’t matter where you work”- he told UgGamesOfficial.

Prof Quartey has played pivotal roles in the senior national team’s appearances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and the preceding tournament (2021) in Cameroon. In March 2024, he was appointed to Mas-Ud Didi Dramani’s coaching staff for the Black Galaxies, Ghana’s home-based national team.

The University of Ghana Corporate League, featuring sixteen (16) corporate bodies, is set to deliver twenty (20) weeks of exciting football, starting this February and concluding in July.

The matches will take place under the floodlights at the University of Ghana Stadium, with the event designed to foster stronger connections between corporate organizations and the university community, while also promoting health and sportsmanship.
