Parliament has approved a budget allocation of GH¢65,899,456.00 to support sports development in Ghana. The approval, granted on Thursday, March 27, 2025, aims to enhance sports infrastructure and policies across the country.
The motion was presented by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and seconded by Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, MP for Okere Constituency, who emphasized the need for a strong maintenance culture in managing sports facilities.
“Maintenance has been an issue, and if we want to continue developing sports and engaging the youth, the ministry must prioritize maintenance,” he stated. “This will ensure that our facilities last and provide opportunities for young people to develop their talents.”
Agbodza outlined the ministry’s key objectives for the allocated funds, highlighting plans to:
-
develop a new national sports policy,
-
rehabilitate existing stadiums, and
-
establish a national sports fund to sustain sports initiatives in the country.
The approved budget is expected to drive long-term growth in Ghana’s sports sector, providing better infrastructure and opportunities for athletes nationwide.
