The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted amnesty to all suspended members and those facing disciplinary action as part of its reorganization and peace-building efforts ahead of its internal primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The development follows the party’s bid to put its house in order after the recently held Special Delegates Conference on July 19 at the University of Ghana Stadium, which ratified some pressing issues ahead of the flagbearer elections early next year.

In a statement dated August 16 and signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, the party revealed that the decision was taken at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on July 25 in Accra.

“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all suspensions and pending disciplinary actions against affected members of our party,” the statement said.

Mr. Buttey further noted that members who were dismissed or had forfeited their membership must reapply if they wish to return.

“There is a caveat for those members who might have been dismissed or forfeited their membership for various reasons. Such members would be required to submit a formal declaration for reinstatement to the National Secretariat in Accra for approval. Upon reinstatement, they would be ineligible to contest for any party position for a period of two years,” the statement added.

The release stressed that the latest decision reflects the NPP’s long-standing tradition of fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead.

It also cautioned party officials at all levels to refrain from arbitrary suspensions, urging that any such actions strictly follow the dictates of the party’s constitution to avoid unnecessary tensions before the primaries.
