Big Akwes reveals he was happy when he heard Daddy Lumba is dead

Kumawood actor Big Akwes has stirred controversy after openly stating that he felt happy upon hearing reports of the passing of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Speaking on Kwanso Te Sen on Obantapa FM 92.5 with Mista Chanti, Big Akwes explained that his reaction stemmed from empathy, given the health challenges the veteran musician had endured in recent years.

“I was really happy when I heard that Daddy Lumba had passed away,” Big Akwes admitted. “The truth is, Daddy had been in constant pain for a long time. He had undergone spine surgery and was suffering a lot.”

The actor revealed that Daddy Lumba had reportedly been confined to a wheelchair for nearly three years, which significantly affected his ability to perform.

“He was unable to do shows during that period. I recall that Daddy Lumba was paid 4 billion cedis for a performance at a funeral, but because of his condition, he couldn’t attend,” he added.

Big Akwes said he sees Lumba’s reported passing not as a tragedy, but as a form of release from prolonged suffering, emphasizing the toll the illness had taken on the icon’s life and career.
