The foremost regulator of the country’s tertiary education space, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has cautioned the President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA), Joseph Obeng over his repeated use of his ‘Honorary’ Doctorate title in his dealings.
In a letter dated May 14, GTEC has called on the Trade Union leader to provide further and better particulars of the institution that awarded the certificate to him.
The statement further states that the use of the honorary Doctorate titles for official purposes is deemed unethical and violates the Education Regulatory Bodies (Act 1023) in addition to related education laws.
The Commission adds that the continued disregard for the directive could led to grave sanctions by the institution.
Mr Joseph Obeng has been tasked by the Commission to take personal responsibility and stop the usage of the title ‘Dr’ as part of his official name designation.
