Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed the Assistant Headmaster of the Nkwatia Presby Senior High School for reportedly slapping a female student.
The embattled Assistant Headmaster is reported to have assaulted the female student, believed to be in her second year, for going out of campus without an exeat.
Following this, the GES condemned the conduct of the Assistant Headmaster in a press statement issued on Monday, August 28, 2023.
According to the Service, headmasters and their assistants are to ensure the safety of students and teachers under their care and not otherwise.
“The attention of the Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has been drawn to a disturbing picture of a student of Nkwatia Presby SHS assaulted by the Assistant Headmaster (Academics) of the school.”
“The GES unequivocally condemns the actions of the Assistant Headmaster, who is supposed to ensure that students and teachers operate in a safe school environment.”
The GES had mentioned that an investigation will be launched to effectively address the matter.
“The Eastern Regional Director of Education is liaising with the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate the matter,” an excerpt of the release said.
It was also announced that the assistant headmaster had been discharged from work following the incident, with the victim currently receiving medical treatment and counselling.
“Meanwhile, the Assistant Headmaster has been relieved of his duties, and the student is receiving medical care and counseling.”
The unfortunate incident involving the school official and the student has drawn mass condemnation from the general public since the issue came to light.
