The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has continued its indefinite strike, disregarding directives from the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) to call off the industrial action and resume work.
This strike has brought academic and administrative functions to a complete standstill across colleges of education in the country, leaving the future of the academic calendar uncertain.
CETAG initiated the strike on Friday, June 14, 2024, in response to the government’s delay in implementing the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) Arbitral Award Orders and negotiating service conditions for its members.
In response, the FWSC ordered the union to end the strike immediately, describing their decision to continue the action at this critical time as an act of bad faith, given the government’s efforts to address their concerns.
However, CETAG has refused to comply with the FWSC’s directive, and has challenged the commission to initiate legal proceedings if it intends to enforce the government’s compliance with its duties.
