Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has urged Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo to build the National team around West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
Asamoah Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, made this telling exclamation on Asempa Fm when asked about who the team should be centered on.
“ So far it is obvious when I say it’s obvious I mean you know, Mohammed Kudus,” Gyan opined on Asempa FM.
When I was coming up, we had Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari and at a point it got to me. Players have come and gone. We had the Abedi Pele era, Stephen Appiah era, Michael Essien era and the Asamoah Gyan era, and now it looks like it’s Kudus’ era.
I mean he is the only Ghanaian player performing in Europe. And not just in any league, but in the Premier League.
He’s not just doing well in Ghana but also in Africa. He’s the only African player who is doing so well for now. So we have to just support him”. He added
The midfielder has netted 7 times and provided 4 assists in his 26 premier league appearances since completing his big-money move from the Dutch capital – Amsterdam- to the English capital – London.
Mohammed Kudus made his Black stars debut in 2019 but has since gone on to prove himself an integral member of the squad, scoring at major competitions, including the FIFA World Cup and the African Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars are set to feature in their first competitive game under head Coach Otto Addo, who has not had the most heartwarming comebacks, with defeat against Nigeria and Uganda in March’s international friendlies. But he could change the narrative in Ghana’s FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Mali on June 3, 2024.
