The National Sports Authority (NSA) chairman, Seth Panwum has revealed that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, is now ready to host football matches once again.
The stadium had been sidelined after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked its license to hold international fixtures due to the poor condition of its playing surface.
Seth Panwum announced that the Baba Yara stadium has now been renovated and upgraded to meet standards, with a revamped pitch. He confirmed that Asante Kotoko and other teams will soon resume playing their home games at the stadium.
“Baba Yara is equally undergoing, let me say, re-turfing, you know, and it has come of age. The grass is up to standard now,” he said in an interview with Channel one sports.
“With constant working after the game, we would go to Baba Yara as well to have a review of the work so far, then, yes, you know, so that we can attest whether it is ready, then we can allow Kumasi Asante Kotoko to return to the pitch,” he added.
Due to the closure of their usual venue, Asante Kotoko has temporarily relocated to the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium for their home games.
Meanwhile, the renovated facility is in line to host the highly anticipated Super Clash match between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, marking its grand reopening.
