Member of Parliament for Atiwa East Constituency and a former Deputy Finance Minister of Ghana is urging authorities to provide more opportunities for home-based players in the Black Stars of Ghana.

Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was in goal as Ghana dominated Chad with a 5-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium before helping the team secure a solid 3-0 triumph over Madagascar.

As a strong advocate for local talent, Abena Osei-Asare believes that these players deserve more opportunities to showcase their skills and contribute to the team’s success.

My only concern is that, we don’t see a lot of our local players in there (the Black Stars) and that is what we should look at. We should appreciate what we have at home…most of the time, it’s the foreign players we call but yet we have teams, the Kotoko’s, the Samartex and all those other teams who have very good players,”she said.

Mr. Speaker, we are calling on the National Sports Authority (NSA), we are calling on GFA-Ghana Football Association- and the Minister for Sports to make sure they do everything possible for us to see the local people in the Black Stars as well,” she added.

Ghana’s Black Stars have solidified their position at the top of Group I in the qualifiers, boasting an impressive 15 points from six matches.

With the remaining qualifiers slated for September, the Black Stars are poised to make a strong push for qualification, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the group stage.
