The Asante Professionals Club, a social grouping of indigenous professionals both at home and abroad, has marked its 10th Anniversary celebrations and rolled out plans it seeks to fulfil during the period of the celebrations this year.
The anniversary celebrations kicked off on Sunday, May 25, with a press launch at the premises of Erata Hotel at Okponglo in the East Legon enclave.
The colourful event was highly patronised by members of the club and selected media houses for the occasion to shed more light and publicity on the significant successes the group has chalked up over the first decade of its formation.
Speaking at the event, the First President of Asante Professionals Club and Chaian of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Yaw Frimpong-Manu Esq. touched on a series of social investments implemented by the group which includes donations to the Otumfuo Education Foundation, rehabilitation of the Ashanti Regional Library, donation of educational materials and supplies to schools dotted across the region, support for businessmen and women, organizing the annual Opemsuo Lectures amongst others that have seen great value being brought to the Asante Kingdom.
Over the past years of our existence as a club we have been able to pool together resources from both members and affiliates who love Asanteman to support noble initiatives like the Otumfuo Education Foundation, donations of essential school items to pupils and students from countless communities in the region, helped with the refurbishment of the Ashanti Regional Library coupled with other social interventions that seek the best interests of our people.
We hope in the ensuing years to be able to get more members and resources coupled with the blessings of our Overlord, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in order to create more value and investment in our beloved region that creates a sustainable development paradigm not only for Asanteman but Ghana as a whole. he said.
Also, Yaw Frimpong-Manu spoke of plans for the group to come to members to raise funds to build a 40-seater ICT facility at a yet to be selected facility to mark the legacy of the 10th anniversary as well as the plans to set up a business support and financial services entity to give soft loans to traders and businessmen and locals to expand their businesses and create more employment for the teeming youth of Asanteman.
Apart from the massive social investments the group has already done in the past years, this milestone of 10 years will be marked by the building of a 40-seater ICT lab at a location to be identified by all stakeholders to enhance IT literacy across board.
There are also advanced plans in discussions with the Asantehene to liaise with APC to create a banking institution to give out soft loans to businesses and traders to expand their work, and create more value and jobs in the local ecosystem in the long term. We are also planning to move ourselves to Kumasi in the latter part of the year, to organize the annual Opemsuo Lecture to reorient the natives on the importance of Asante culture and related matters which will also result in a banquet at the Residence of the Overlord to celebrate the good tidings of the anniversary celebrations as well.
Finally, those events will be planned to match the date of the biggest ‘Akwasidae’ of the Kingdom in bringing together all indigenes and patrons to experience the much-touted and respected age-old traditions of the Asante people. he noted.
A logo has also been designed to emphasise the true values of the Asante land and bring out the traditional meaning of the three colours associated with the identity of Asanteman – Black, Green and Gold.
The Club calls on all well-meaning Ghanaians to support their cause and participate in the Anniversary activities, especially the Opemsuo Lecture and other public events.
