Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome any challenge, insisting Ghana should not be underestimated despite being tagged as underdogs at this year’s CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Returning to the continental stage after missing the last edition, the Queens are determined to make a statement.

With a rich history as a three-time runners-up, Ghana is eager to make a strong comeback after a 19-year wait for a final appearance.

South Africa is ranked 54th in the world and has gone unbeaten in 7 games, with 6 wins and 1 draw.

The Banyana Banyana also boasts a strong defence, conceding an average of 0.6 goals per game.

The Black Queens will kick off their campaign against defending champions South Africa on Monday, July 7, in a game scheduled to be played at the Honneurs Stadium in Oudja.

Coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side is focused on executing their game plan, with the Swedish tactician emphasizing their underdog status while expressing confidence

“Of course, we know that we are a little bit of an underdog or a dark horse. We are not one of the biggest favourites to people but I know that we have the quality in this group to beat all of the teams in this tournament. I think we can have a really good chance to be successful,” he said.

“This team has been growing a lot the last month together both on the pitch but also off the pitch so I am feeling that we are physically better prepared and tactically better prepared than if I compare with one month ago and I am pretty sure the players agree with that as well,” he added.

Ghana is in Group C with Mali, Tanzania and South Africa.
