Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have all secured their spots in the Round of 32 of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup, while defending league champions, FC Samartex suffered a disappointing elimination.
Both teams secured victories against lower tier sides, Immigration FC and Future Stars, respectively.
Asante Kotoko’s Albert Amoah broke the deadlock with a brilliant brace at Baba Yara on Sunday. Amoah opened the scoring in the 65th minute with a clinical finish after latching onto a brilliant through ball from Dauda Saaka. Another stunning strike from Amoah sealed the victory in the 86th minute. The win marked the Porcupine Warriors’ return to the Baba Yara Stadium after having to play their home games at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium due to closure of the Baba Yara.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak cruised to a dominant 4-0 victory over Immigration FC. Mawuli Wayo scored two goals, while Martin Karikari and Stephen Appiah Asare added one each, helping Hearts of Oak (the Phobians) achieve a resounding victory.
In a stunning turn of events, Samartex were ousted after a 2-0 loss to Bibiani Gold Stars at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Legon Cities, a struggling Premier League team, also suffered a shocking home loss to Home Stars FC, a lower-division team, on Friday night.
Dormaa Unity FC handed Aduana Stars a 2-1 defeat, worsening their struggles after coach Yaw Acheampong’s recent departure. Additionally, Division Two side Danbort upset Ghana Premier League team Vision FC with a 2-1 win.
