Akosombo Dam Spillage: “Affected students are being provided with relief items” – VORSA-UG PRO indicates

Public Relations Officer for the Volta Region Students Association (VORSA) Amedo Elijah Qorku has highlighted some measures that have been adopted by the association to assist students from the volta region who have been affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Speaking on Campus Exclusive, he spoke on how the association had called on individuals to donate items to support affected sudents, including reception of the contributions.

“As of yesterday our official was released calling on people to donate food items and medical supplies, money and so on to be able to assist the people. We have also reached out to some of our students that we know are in the affected areas and some have reached out to us about their issues and contributions are going on.”

Mr. Qorku also revealed that a committee has been formed to distribute the relief items to the affected students who have currently made it to campus.

” Today we will be launching a 5-member committee that will be paying visits to our members at the various halls and also to provide relief items for our people that have been affected so far. Those are the plans that we have put in place as an association to get some items and help them in the situation that they find themselves.”

He further called on individuals to continue to donate with cash and kind in efforts to support the affected students in the Volta region.

“We are calling on every one to come on board. Our people will be present in some lecture halls, some classrooms and halls of residence to mobilize items. Anything that you can give in terms of toiletries, foodstuff or oil. Anything you can donate to support us. We are willing to send the items to the people and it will reach them.”

Some of the affected students have been able to report to school and will be visited by the five-member committee to ensure their welfare.
