Medeama Soccer Club (SC) has defeated Guinean football club Horoya AC to move one step further into the group stages of the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

Medeama welcomed Guinean side Horoya AC in an enthralling encounter yesterday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the first leg of the final playoff round to the group stage of the CAF inter-club competition.

At the end of the game, the defending champions of the Ghana Premier league (GPL) prevailed against the Guinean giants by 3 goals against 1.

The goals from Nana Kofi Babil, Nurudeen Abdulai and Kofi Asmah were enough to secure victory for the home team, Medeama SC.

The win provides the Tarkwa based club a game away from progressing to the group stages (money zone) of this season’s CAF Champions League.

Despite a good display from both teams in the first half of the match, neither side could attain a figure on the scoresheet.

Soon after the recess, the Yellow and Mauves Boys broke the deadlock through a sublime strike outside the penalty box by striker Nana Babil.

Later in the 65th minute, center back Nurudeen Abdulai also found the back of the net to double Medeama’s advantage from a corner kick.

Four minutes later, a thunderbolt from Kofi Asmah put the team ahead of Horoya in terms of goals.

Medeama were however disappointed to have conceded a late goal as they were on course for a flawless victory in the first leg of their CAF Champions League playoff tie against Guinean giants Horoya.

The visitors secured an away goal which has the potential to affect the outcome of the second leg fixture on September 30 in Conakry, Guinea.

Medeama have a two goal margin to protect and aim to make history by reaching the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in their history.
