Over 24,000 teachers fail GES promotion examination

24,893 out of 80,810 teachers, who sat for the 2021/2022 promotion examination to within the Ghana Education Service (GES), have failed to pass the examination that would allow them to progress to a higher rank.

This was revealed in a statement released by the Ghana Educational Service (GES) on 17th August, 2023. The release was aimed at informing teaching staff to on the release of the results on the promotional examinations.

The figure of teachers who failed to pass represents 31% of the total number of candidates, according to the statement.

The promotional examination was set up to allow teachers who pass the examination to progress to a higher ranks in the education sector.

On the other hand, the statement also revealed that 55,917 teachers, representing 69% of the teachers were successful in passing the examination.

The statement also highlighted some of positions for which the examinations were held for.

“Out of 80, 810 candidates who took the test, 55,917 candidates representing 69% were successful. The grades involved are:
I. Deputy Director
II. Assistant Director I
III. Assistant Director II
IV. Principal Superintendent…,”

Meanwhile, Teacher Unions had complained about delays in the release of the results earlier this week. But the GES has now released the results and promised to send SMS messages to all candidates who sat the examination and subsequently send promotion letters to all successful candidates in due course.
